    Description

Authentic Chorotega Vintage Pot from Costa Rica, Beautifully Decorated, Signed
From the village of San Vicente in the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica, this vintage decorative ceramic pot is hand-painted in the traditional colors of the indigenous people, black and dark red.
One of the characteristics of classic Chorotega pottery is that the different tones of color come only from the original three: red, black and white.
Any other color is not authentic.
The designs on this unique pot are of nature and a serpent like figure from their mythology.
Chorotega pottery is completely handmade with traditional techniques passed down through generations for 3000 years and is one of the last surviving cultural elements of the main indigenous culture in Costa Rica.
The pot is engraved on the bottom with a stamp of authenticity, which is the guarantee of quality known as the Denomination of Origin. It is also signed by the artist.
    The pot measures 4 ½” X 3”
Due to age the pot is worn from use and has a slight nick on the lip.
